The Uttar Pradesh unit of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is all set to get a new chief. The big development is likely to take place next month. BJP’s national president Amit Shah, during his recent visit to Lucknow had said that after a new state president is selected, Keshav Prasad Maurya will devote all his time to the state government. In the next month, Keshav Prasad Maurya is expected to be elected to the Legislative Council so he can continue as Deputy Chief Minister of UP.
According to a report in The Indian Express, there are more than half a dozen hopefuls in the party, but the workers have their fingers crossed in apprehension that the national leadership may announce a name that could take everyone by surprise.
Here are some of the probable candidates who may replace Keshav Prasad Maurya to become next UP BJP chief:-
-Swatantra Deo Singh: He is State Minister for Transport (independent charge)
-Ashok Kataria: State general secretary Ashok Kataria
-Jaswant Saini: State party vice-president
-Sanjeev Balyan: Union minister
-Mahesh Sharma: Union minister
-While Swatantra Deo Singh is from Bundelkhand, the others are from western UP.
Keshav Prasad Maurya is also a member of the Lok Sabha. Maurya is likely to resign after his election as MLC.
