After its defeat to AAP, in the recently held Bawana by-poll, cadre on the ground has come out with an assessment report. His own observations, as well as the report, will form part of Delhi BJP leader and northwest Delhi MP Udit Raj’s inquiry report of the elections. The BJP cadre has named it as “Bawana debacle”. In the crucial bypoll held in the national capital, the BJP got 35,834 votes, compared to AAP’s 53,886 votes, finishing a distant second.

Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari has been given the task to find out the reason behind the election loss. Tiwari said he will look for a “bottom-up” explanation for the defeat. “I will make inquiries at the bottom before submitting a report in two or three days, ” he was quoted as saying by The Indian Express. The Delhi BJP sources have claimed that it was the way to appease Raj by giving him this responsibility as he was “largely sidelined” from the election campaign leading to the bypoll, as per IE.

The idea for the inquiry committee was not from the high command, senior BJP leaders have suggested. “Party chief Amit Shah is unhappy with the loss in Bawana, but the high command did not ask for any such committee to be formed,” a BJP leader, was quoted as saying by The Indian Express. The inquiry committee was Tiwari’s way to come up with a justification, he added.

Meanwhile, a ‘Tiranga Yatra’ was taken out by Tiwari across his constituency in northeast Delhi yesterday. The idea of ‘Tiranga Yatra’ was conceived by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year when he asked his party workers to take out such a yatra for a week after Independence Day.

In a statement from BJP office, Tiwari said: “There is a vision of PM Modi that when we shall be celebrating the diamond jubilee of our Independence, at the time the country may be able to realise the dream of new India.”
