Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta has urged the Lt Governor Anil Baijal to direct the government to attach bank accounts of 531 private schools defaulting in a refund of the excess fee charged. Gupta, also the president of Delhi Abhibhavak Mahasangh, claimed that the guardians of school children were awaiting the fee refund since an order by the Delhi High Court concerning the matter came in 2011. “The High Court had directed the schools to refund excess fee in 2011. But most of these schools failed to do so and the Kejriwal government has not taken any action despite being in power for two years,” he said. The Justice Anil Dev Committee had recommended the refund of excess fees charged from parents in respect of 531 private unaided recognised schools of Delhi after examining the records and accounts, he said. “Arrears of Rs 350 crore is payable by 531 schools to the concerned parents. Out of the 531 schools, 53 schools have claimed to have refund the fee, while 40 schools have that they have returned partial fee,” he claimed.
