Elections 2018 LIVE updates: In Tripura, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today targetted Manik Sarkar-led CPI(M) government of Tripura, which has been ruling the state for the last 25 years. While the CPM is looking to secure another term, the BJP is leaving no stone unturned to come to power in what is considered as the Left bastion. In his speech at Shantir Bazar, Modi blamed the Manik Sarkar government for keeping the state and its people poor. He also attacked the Congress for having a “secret” pact with the Left party.
Modi’s visit to the state came a day before Congress president Rahul Gandhi will hit the campaign trail in the Left bastion. BJP has emerged as a prime challenger to the CPI(M)-led 25-year-old Manik Sarkar government of the state. Before Tripura, Modi dedicated several development projects to the nation in Arunachal Pradesh.

4.53 pm: PM promises to set up a high-level probe into murders of journalists in the CPM regime. Modi says the Cummunist party has killed democracy and introduced “Gun-tantra” in the state. “Now the time pay homage to those killed by CPM rule has come. And the best way to do so is by voting against the Left on 18 February,” says PM.

3.35 pm: Punjab National Bank case: Amid election heat, opposition parties are training guns at the BJP and PM Modi over the alleged PNB fraud case. However, the BJP has blamed the previous UPA government for the alleged scam. “Whatever is coming out is the result of the previous UPA govt, action will be certainly taken on it,” Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Defence Minister, said in Shillong.
