PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced Rs 2,000 crore assistance for North Eastern states hit by flood. Along with the assistance, Modi also announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakhs for the kin of those killed in floods and Rs 50,000 for the injured. The money will be released from Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. Modi also announced an assistance of Rs 2,000 cr for the flood-hit North Easter states. Modi made the announcement after chairing a series of high-level meetings to review the flood situation, and relief operations in the North Eastern States, particularly in the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Manipur.
The Prime Minister also took a stock of the evacuation and the relief operations being carried out in flood-hit areas. In Assam, two waves of floods have affected more than 25 lakh people in 29 districts of the state this year. The administration is reported to have set up 1,098 relief camps and distribution centers. Reports say that receding has been observed in the current wave of floods, however, six districts are still reeling under floods and over 2,000 people have taken shelter in the relief camps. At least 70 people have been killed in floods in the northeastern state.
