Bringing down its radio taxi fares from the existing government-approved rates, taxi provider Meru has slashed its taxi fares to Rs 16 per KM on all rides in the Delhi-NCR. The reduced rates will be available for all bookings through the taxi provider’s mobile application. The government approved rates are of Rs 23 per km for rides during day time and Rs 28.75 per km during nights.

“Keeping its promise of offering reliable taxi services at affordable prices, Meru has introduced new prices to provide affordable rides for our esteemed customers in Delhi NCR. By providing competitive prices in radio taxi services, we aim to provide even more affordable travel options to our ever-growing customer base,” Meru CEO Nilesh Sangoi said.

The new fares, available exclusively on Meru’s mobile app, come with no surge price, no ride time charge, no base fare and no night time charge, the company said in a statement. The company is the only major player in the taxi service industry that does not apply surge price, it added.

While the Meru cabs come with the slash in price, one of its major competitors as taxi providers, Uber’s base fare for a Sedan in the Delhi-NCR is Rs 40 and charges Rs 6 per km upto 20 kms and Rs 1.5 per km after that. Similarly, another major taxi provider, Ola’s base price for a Sedan is Rs 75 and charges Rs 10 per km upto 20 kms and Rs 14 per km after that.

Meanwhile, in recent days, with the drivers of taxi hailing services like Uber and Ola going on a strike, metros and buses plying on the streets of Delhi NCR were seen packed with people. The drivers have been complaining about the unfair pricing and bad working conditions, and that has opened up some innate problems in how Uber and Ola function.
