Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will be present at sainthood ceremony of Mother Teresa in Rome’s Vatican City on September 4 . He was invited by Missionaries of Charitiy. Before being slected for the Indian Revenue Service (IRS), Kejriwal had previously worked for Mother Teresa run-NGO in 1992 with a close association with with the Missioanries of Charity in 1992.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is also to attend the ceremony.
Earlier, Pope Francis had declared that Mother Teresa would be patroned a saint in a canonisation ceremony which takes place on the eve 19th death anniversary. Mother Teresa spent most of her life aiding the unprivileged in Kolkata, India.
Born as Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu to an Albanian family in Macedonia, Mother Teresa left home at the age of 18 and joined the Sisters of Loreto in Rathfarnham, Ireland. After spending a year in Ireland, she moved to the Sisters of Loreto Convent in Darjeeling. She was a History and Geography teacher in Kolkata for 15 years but felt deeply hurt to see the suffering of the poor. She became a nun in 1931 adopted the name Teresa to honour the patron saints of Australia and Spain.
She received many awards, including the Nobel Peace prize for her selfless service. She passed away on September 4 1977.
