Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, alongwith Sanjay Singh and Ashish Khaitan from the Aam Aadmi Party appeared in the Amritsar High Court today in connection with a defamation case, and has been granted bail. The three leaders from Aam Aadmi Party appeared before the Gurpartap Singh at the Court of Civil Judge at 11a.m. The court has adjourned the defamation hearing to October 15. Bikram Singh Majithia, Revenue minister of Punjab had filed the defamation case in May accusing Kejriwal for tarnishing his reputation. Majithia in May had alleged that Kejriwal, Singh and Khaitan had tried to malign his family name by levelling false, baseless and malicious allegations. According to Majithia, Kejriwal, Khaitan and Singh were trying to malign his family on baseless allegations regarding involvement in drugs. Majithia told PTI that AAP leaders have ‘made it a habit’ to target the opposition by lying and ‘hoodwinking’ people.
Arvind Kejriwal in turn said that he will put leaders like Majithia in jail once AAP wins the Punjab elections, as the party has collected enough evidence. The case was filed in the court of Civil Judge Gurpartap Singh, at Amritsar under various sections of CrPC. “I will not let anyone besmirch my and family’s honour. Anyone doing so will have to face the consequences. I am determined to make them face trial and be punished for their misdeeds,” the minister had told PTI. The Punjab leader had also filed a defamation case against the same AAP leaders in a Ludhiana court.
