The 2019 Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections, held in April 2019, witnessed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) securing a substantial majority with 41 seats. Pema Khandu assumed office as the Chief Minister on May 29, 2019.
Despite the constituency comprising 60 seats, the assembly elections for Arunachal Pradesh were conducted for 57 seats due to three BJP candidates being declared unopposed. The remaining seats were distributed among other parties, with the Janata Dal (United) winning seven seats, the National People’s Party (NPP) securing five, the Congress party winning four, the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) claiming one seat, and independents securing two seats.
Arunachal Pradesh Assembly Elections 2024: Voter turnout in 2019
In Arunachal Pradesh, 7,94,162 voters, including 4,01,601 women, exercised their franchise across 2,202 polling stations spread across the state. Eleven polling stations had been set up exclusively for women.
There were also 3,000 physically challenged voters in Arunachal Pradesh. The state had 281 vulnerable polling booths and 662 critical polling stations, ensuring appropriate arrangements for all eligible voters to exercise their franchise.
Security measures were implemented across Arunachal Pradesh to ensure a fair, free, and peaceful voting process. Increased security personnel were deployed particularly in insurgency-affected districts like Tirap, Changlang, and Longding.
