Security forces killed three militants in an encounter in Uri district of Kashmir yesterday while the body of forth terrorist has been recovered, Harpreet Singh, the Deputy Commander, Uri Brigade said on Monday. Singh said that the Army thwarted the terror attack by killing the terrorists. While addressing the media, he said that the terrorists were there to carry out a major attack at an army camp on Sunday morning. He further said that the Army foiled a major terrorist attempt in Baramulla district in the early hours of September 24. “4 terrorists were killed. They were to carry out a major terrorist attack at an Army camp,” he added, “The search operation is still underway. We plan to clear the whole sector.”
The encounter took place after the Army and police started searches in Kalgai area on Sunday morning following inputs about movement of terrorists, reported PTI. Director General of Police S P Vaid yesterday said that the militants were planning a “suicide” attack like the one carried out on an Army base in Uri last year that left 19 soldiers dead and several others injured.
Last year on September 18, four militants stormed Army brigade headquarters in Uri, close to the Line of Control, killing 19 soldiers before being neutralised
