Expressing her ire over the alleged rape of a woman passenger by an Ola cab driver in Bhopal, noted women rights activist Abha Singh on Sunday said these app-based agencies are only interested in earning money, adding that they are least concerned about the safety and security of passengers.
“These app-based agencies are only interested in earning money in India, the safety and security of the passengers is not their concern. After Delhi, now in Bhopal a woman has been raped by the taxi driver. It is necessary that the owners of these services are indirectly made responsible for any offence happening in these app-based services,” Singh told ANI.
“NCRB figures also show that in the last three years there has been maximum number of rape cases in Madhya Pradesh. There have been more than 5000 cases of rape being reported in the state in a year. The government must ensure the safety of the women,” she added.
An Ola cab driver allegedly raped a 28-year-old woman passenger in Bhopal when she took the taxi service to return home after work on December 29.
The cabbie reportedly took the woman to a deserted location between Bairagarh and Gandhi Nagar and raped her. He also threatened to kill her if she told anyone about it.
The accused, who was working with Ola for past few months, has been arrested. It is being said that he was known to the victim.
