US-returned techie arrested for allegedly killing parents in Bengaluru
According to a report from Times of India, citing early investigation, Rohan allegedly stabbed both his parents several times following a serious fight. The argument is believed to have started over money. Neighbours heard loud noises and rushed to the villa. They found the couple badly injured and immediately shifted them to Manipal Hospitals on Old Airport Road. However, doctors declared them brought dead.
Dr Madhavi Nair, who lives in the same neighbourhood and works at Manipal Hospitals, filed a complaint with HAL police.
Pressure over money for business plans
A senior police officer said Rohan had earlier worked as a software engineer in the US. He returned to Bengaluru around three years ago. Police are still trying to find out more details about his job abroad and why he came back to India. After returning, Rohan reportedly worked independently on projects and wanted to expand his work.
According to a police officer, “Rohan, a bachelor, was doing projects independently and wanted to scale.” He was said to be facing anxiety issues. When he struggled to raise funds for the projects he had planned, he began asking his parents for financial support. However, the couple told him they were not in a position to meet his demands.
Police said this disagreement over money led to frequent quarrels at home. “Some time ago, Rohan shifted to a rented accommodation in Varthur,” an officer said. Despite living separately, he continued to visit the villa. Police said he came to his parents’ house on Monday night and again demanded money. “The fight escalated by Wednesday morning,” the officer said.
Arrest and further investigation
Police have taken Rohan into custody and he will subsequently be produced before a court. “We are yet to question him. His sister, who lives in the US and has been informed of the tragedy, will arrive in Bengaluru by Thursday. The bodies were shifted to Bowring Hospital. Autopsy will be conducted after their daughter’s arrival,” police said.
The investigation is still underway.
