AMMK founder TTV Dhinakaran rejoined the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance on Wednesday — mere months before the Tamil Nadu elections. He had led consultation meetings with party leaders earlier in the day before meeting with BJP’s state election in-charge Piyush Goyal.
“I am honoured and delighted that my good friend and senior leader TTV Dhinakaran has decided to come back to the NDA family,” said Union Minister Piyush Goyal.
AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami also took to social media with a welcome message — contending that Dhinakaran had joined the NDA to “uproot the evil force DMK’s tyrannical rule, put an end to its dynastic politics and once again ensure the golden rule of Jayalalithaa”.
TTV Dhinakaran returns to NDA after two years
The Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam founder had quit the NDA in September 2025. The long-standing BJP ally had indicated at the time that his party would only decide on new alliances in December. He had blamed “betrayal” without naming anyone for the exit.
“With the larger objective in mind, we should not allow old issues to overshadow the party’s interests, the welfare of Tamil Nadu, or push them aside. Making compromises for the common good does not weaken us. Likewise, as Amma’s cadres—who serve as a unifying force—we will come together as one and stand firmly to ensure that Amma’s rule returns to Tamil Nadu, that people’s governance is restored, and that good governance prevails. That is our clear stand,” he said after announcing the alliance on Wednesday.
