Twitter witnessed a lively exchange between Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan and Rahul Gandhi led Congress party today. In a tweet on Friday afternoon, the Grand Old Party thanked Amitabh Bachchan for following it on Twitter. It was an icing on the cake for the Congress as it reached four million followers on Twitter today. It is a big boost for the party ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections this year, including in Karnataka.
Congress has witnessed a whopping jump from one million in June 2016 to 4 million in February 2018. The growing number of followers for Congress on Twitter shows the party’s growing presence on social media where its President Rahul Gandhi has a major following. In 2017, Gandhi added a whopping one million followers on Twitter in two months, giving a tough fight to arch-rival Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to Congress sources, Rahul’s followers stood at around 24.93 lakh in July 2017 and have risen to 34 lakh by September 17.

Meanwhile, the senior Bachchan who has followed the party on social media today has also been closely associated with the Gandhi family in the past. Bachchan shared a political rapport with Congress after the assassination of Indira Gandhi in 1984. Amitabh then joined politics after being invited by Rajiv Gandhi to contest from Allahabad. However, things later became sour between both especially after the Bofors scam, which resulted in the later distancing himself from active politics. Amitabh later supported good friend Amar Singh’s Samajwadi Party by appearing in advertisements and political campaigns.
But, today’s congeniality reached another level as the party wished the 75-year-old actor all the success for his next movie. ‘102 not out.’ The movie also stars Rishi Kapoor, and both actors will be seen together after 27 years. In the film, Amitabh is 102-years-old whereas Rishi Kapoor plays his 75-year-old son who has a childlike innocence. The film is based on a Gujarati play and is all set to hit the theatres on May 4. The makers of the film released the teaser today that is written by Saumya Joshi and directed by Umesh Shukla.
