Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has been appointed as brand ambassador of the Swachh Bharat Mission. Announcing the same, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said that the actor has happily agreed to be the brand ambassador of the mission in the state, PTI said. “He said he was proud to be the brand ambassador of such a campaign for a state where Chardham is located,” Rawat, who completed six months in the office today was quoted as saying by the agency. Last month, Akshay Kumar was also appointed as the brand ambassador for cleanliness drive by the Uttar Pradesh Government and his film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha was interest-free in the state.
The film focuses on importance of building toilets and ending open defecation in the country. When asked whether the actor will also not turn up like earlier brand ambassadors appointed by the state government, the Chief Minister replied in negative. “I can assure you that he will definitely come. However, it will not be possible for him to come by October 2. After all, we also need time to make necessary arrangements for his visit,” he said as per PTI. Last week, the film Toilet Ek Prem Katha had become Akshay Kumar’s all-time highest grosser after collecting Rs 133.60 crore at the box office, which was also confirmed by director Shree Narayan Singh.
“I am on cloud nine, now that TEPK has turned out Akshay Kumar’s highest grosser. What more can any director expect as a response than this. He is a superb performer, he works really hard on all his characters once he is convinced about it. All his hard work has paid off finally. I can’t thank enough to Akshay Kumar, Bhumi and the entire cast n crew for all the unconditional support rendered. Hope I continue to churn out films which would entertain the masses.” the director was quoted as saying by Indian Express.
