Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav attacked the BJP today claiming that if there had been any strength in the party, it would have fought Assembly elections directly. “They (BJP) have given ‘prasad’ to our MLCs and taken them in its fold. If they have the strength they should have fought direct elections to enter the House. Don’t know what ‘prasad’ they have given to MLCs,” Akhilesh Yadav was quoted as saying by PTI. The comments had come on a day when BJP announced that state Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, his two deputies, Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma, would contest the upcoming  Legislative Council bypolls on seats that have been vacated by SP and BSP MLCs, who went on to join the BJP.

While responding to allegations of favouritism that was allegedly shown in giving Yash Bharti Awards during his tenure he suggested that the Yogi Adityanath Government in the state must also award its own people for the same, ANI said. “They are saying that Samajwadi Party has given Yash Bharati Award to some of their people. I would like to say that even you should favour your own people and give the awards, nobody is stopping you,” the former chief minister said while addressing a rally in Azamgarh. Slamming the state government further, Akhilesh Yadav added as per ANI, “We gave Rs. 11 lakh and 50 thousand monthly pensions, your government is at Centre too, you ensure at least Rs 1 lakh monthly pension to Yash Bharati Awardees.”

As per ANI, instituted in 1994, the  Yash Bharti Award is the highest Award of Uttar Pradesh Government,  it is given to those  who have contributed immensely in the fields of social work, literature, medicine, film, science, journalism, handicrafts, culture, education, music, drama, sports, industry and astrology.
