Akhilesh Yadav thanked all his party collegues for the victory.
Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday said that the party’s wins in Gorakhpur and Phulpur bypolls will send a big political message. Yadav thanked all his party colleagues for the victory. He added that the victory has dented BJP’s arrogance and that the party may change its tone. On chances of SP’s alliance with BSP, Akhilesh said one should forget past differences. He added that the victory belongs to the poor and farmers of the country.
“It’s a victory of country’s poor, labour, farmers, Dalits and minorities,” Yadav said. (Yeh desh ke tamaam log jo gareeb hain, mazdoor hain, kisaan hain, dalit, jo minorities hain, yeh unki jeet hai aur bahot badi jeet hai).
“The flower wilt away in Phulpur, (BJP’s) arrogance has been dented, we expect their language to change now,” Yadav said. (Phulpur mein Phool murjha gaya, ghamand toota, ummeed hai ab bhasha badlegi)
BJP’s previous wins have drawn sharp attacks on the functioning of the EVMs. On Wednesday, as results rolled out, there were murmurs over how there was no talk of ‘EVM-tampering’ as the opposition parties had outperformed the BJP. In an apparent counter, Yadav said: “SP’s victory would have been bigger if the EVM hadn’t malfunctioned.” Citing an ‘enquiry’, Yadav said that votes were already polled in some EVMs. He added that EVMs didn’t show ‘complete anger.’
“EVMs didn’t show complete anger, there would have been a louder sound had the ballots were used in elections,” Yadav said. (EVM sahi hota aur EVM ne samay kharaab nahi kiya hota toh SP ki jeet aur bhi zyada badi hoti. Kayi EVM jab check karayi gayi toh usme vote pehle se pade the. EVM se poora gussa nahi nikla, agar ballot hota toh aawaaz sunne ko milti aur gussa poora nikalta).
In unimaginable scenes, Yadav had rushed to the residence of the BSP supremo shortly after his candidates emerged victorious and thanked her. “Samajwadis always give due respect to all and that is why today we have good relations with all. People were recalling old incidents but sometimes they have to be forgotten,” Yadav told mediapersons here.
