Akhilesh Yadav, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, today embarked on a ‘Vikas Rath Yatra’, marking the beginning of his election campaign for the 2017 Assembly election in the state. Akhilesh started the state-wide yatra after Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav flagged off his ‘rath’ which is a modified luxurious bus.
SP state unit chief and Akhilesh’s uncle was also present on the occasion. The fight for control of power between the two has been playing in the public for the last three-four months. However, today it seemed all is well within the party and the family. Speaking on the occasion, Shivpal said, “I want to wish luck to Akhilesh Yadav so that the SP government can come back in the UP. Our aim is to stop the formation of BJP government in UP.”
Just a few days ago, the party seemed to be on the verge of a split as Akhilesh and Shivpal clashed over Amar Singh.
The way Akhilesh denied the rift theory while talking to media, it seemed that the family feud, or the “pari-war” made popular by media, was a thing of the past, or something that never happened, or may be a staged drama.
BSP supremo Mayawati was the first leader who claimed that the SP family feud was a planned drama to take people’s attention away from the failures of the SP government. One doesn’t yet know how true her claim, but one can’t even deny it.
It may just be a coincidence that as soon as Akhilesh’s luxurious ‘Vikas Rath’ left the La Martiniere Ground in Lucknow, it developed a snag on the city’s Lohia Path, named after socialist leader Ram Manohar Lohia. SP was formed on the ideals of Lohia. Akhilesh’s luxurious bus reflected how seriously SP follows Lohia.
