Aircel Maxis scam: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has reportedly found a confidential report on Aircel Maxis case of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the house of former finance minister P Chidambaram in Delhi during a raid on January 13. As per a report by ANI, this was the same report on Aircel Maxis scam which was submitted by the CBI in a sealed cover with the Supreme Court in 2013. The report further adds that the ED found an unsigned copy which means the report was leaked from CBI. ED had brought this to the knowledge of CBI. The content of the report has been verified by CBI. CBI has also instituted an inquiry on how the report reached the residence of P Chidambaram.
The CBI had filed the 2G report to the SC double bench of Justices GS Singhvi and K Radhakrishnan on August 1, 2013. Chidambaram was then Union minister in the UPA-2 Manmohan Singh led cabinet. It is worth mentioning that such reports from investigative agencies are meant for the court’s perusal only and are not supposed to be available to anyone else.
The CBI is also probing whether Chidambaram’s son, Karti Chidambaram, benefited from the FIPB clearance to the Aircel-Maxis deal in 2006. P Chidambaram was then Union finance minister in UPA-1. Chidambaram has repeatedly denied any impropriety and maintained the clearance followed regular procedure.
