The Crime Branch officials on Sunday grilled AIADMK(Sasikala) Deputy General Secretary TTV Dinakaran for his alleged role in a case of bribing an official for retaining the “two leaves” party symbol. The leader, who reached the Crime Branch Inter-State Cell office in Chanakyapuri around 2 PM, was questioned for second day in a row. News agency Press Trust of India reported that there was heavy security deployment outside the residential compound that houses the office of the Inter-State Cell. Dinakaran was on Saturday questioned for close to seven hours in the case. As per a PTI report, the nephew of jailed AIADMK chief Sasikala, was grilled by an ACP rank investigating officer.
As per a report, Dinakaran’s phone was examined to check the list of people who he must have contacted. Earlier on Thursday, a Delhi Police Crime Branch team reached Chennai and served a legal notice to the leader and asked him to join the probe. A lookout notice was issued against him on Tuesday. The main accused, Chandrasekhar was reportedly picked up from the Hyatt hotel and was produced at the residence of Special Judge Poonam Chaudhry, who allowed the Delhi Police’s plea to interrogate him for eight days. During the probe, Crime Branch reportedly recovered an amount of Rs. 1.3 crore (approx) and two luxury cars, a BMW and a Mercedes, from Chandrashekhar.
Dinakar has been facing tough times, as he is facing heat from both, inside and outside the party. The leader has been ‘sidelined’ by his party MLAs in an attempt for merger with the rebel group headed by former Tamil Nadu chief minister O Panneerselvam. However, Dinakaran has not resigned as party’s deputy general secretary, saying that he will only take a decision after a discussion with her aunt Sasikala who had appointed him.
