Sasikala has been close to Jayalalithaa for the past two decades although there have been differences in between. After Jayalalithaa’s death, the leader continued to stay in the Poes Garden residence.
Newly elected Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Pannerselvam today chaired the first cabinet meet since he took over as the head of state on Tuesday. Sasikala Natrajan, touted as the ‘new power house’ of the party, will also be present. The party will also elect its new general secretary in the meeting. Some reports suggests that Natrajan, the close aide of Jayalalithaa, may be elected as the new party chief. Earlier this morning, senior AIADMK leader C Ponnaiyan said Saturday that the party will elect its new general secretary soon, in a decision that will be “unanimous.” The general secretary is the top most designation in the party, earlier occupied by J Jayalalithaa, the former chief minister of Tamil Nadu who passed away on December 5.
