In a major development at the Centre, MoS Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajiv Pratap Rudy has resigned, according to PTI. Rudy is likely to be dropped from the Cabinet and will be given organisational work, say ANI sources. Rudy is at present the Lok Sabha MP from Saran constituency in Bihar. He was first elected as an MLA in Bihar on Janata Dal ticket from Taraiya at the age of 28. Today, BJP chief Amit Shah met PM Narendra Modi. Although BJP has played it down, speculation has it that there will be a number of other ministers resigning. BJP however, has said Shah keeps meeting Modi regularly and also pointed out that the meeting comes a day ahead of the beginning of a three-day meeting of the RSS and its allied organisations in Vrindavan. Shah is also taking part in the exercise, PTI reported. NDTV reports that Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti has also quit. MoS Commerce minister Nirmala Sitharaman is likely to quit too, the channel added. According to Indian Express, both these ministers are likely to be dropped.

Another major move today at the Centre included Union minister Mahendra Nath Pandey being appointed Uttar Pradesh BJP president in place of Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya. The BJP leader is one of the better known Brahmin faces of the party in the state, PTI reported. Another Cabinet minister who may be moved out of the Cabinet is Kalraj Mishra. Reason behind that is that the senior BJP leader has crossed the age of 75 and BJP has removed many others who have crossed that bar, PTI reports. Adding to the speculation was the fact that Mishra met Shah today.

Question also hangs over Finance Minister Arun Jaitley who also holds the Defence Minister’s post. Jaitley today said that he hoped not to remain the Defense Minister for long while he was talking to the media. “At least I hope not very long,” Jaitley was quoted saying by ANI after he was asked for how long will he continue as the Defense Minister.

Others who are likely to resign are Sanjeev Balyan and Fugan Singh Kulaste. They had all met Amit Shah. Those who may be inducted into the Narendra Modi Cabinet are MPs from Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan, reports Indian Express. Cabinet reshuffle may be announced on Saturday ahead of PM Modi’s trip to China for BRICS meet on Sunday.

It is also being said that JD(U) and AIADMK leaders too will be inducted into the Cabinet. AIADMK’s Thambi Durai and K Venugopal are being seen as among likely representatives of their party in the Cabinet if the Tamil Nadu party joins the Modi government, PTI said. President Ram Nath Kovind is expected to leave for Tirupati on Friday.
