Fourteen people were arrested in the connection with the two FIRs that were lodged at Sadar Bazaar and Fatehpur Sikri police stations over an alleged case of arson. They were reportedly supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Bajrang Dal who had allegedly assaulted policemen and were reportedly involved in an arson case in Agra. Ram Shankar Katheria, the BJP MP from Agra and eight MLAs from the district said that the police had beaten up the 14 arrested workers of the BJP, Bajrang Dal and VHP. They then met UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday and ask him to take action against the Agra SSP and other officials, the Indian Express reported. They also met the IG from Agra Zone, Sujeet Pandey and lodged the complaint regarding the torture. Katheria and other MLAs demanded a high-level inquiry into the matter to which, the report suggests, the CM has agreed to.
Meanwhile, the investigation into the two FIRs lodged in the connection has been transferred to Mathura police on Wednesday. Mahesh Kumar Mishra, the DIG from Agra Range, was the one who transferred the probe. He said that BJP leaders had alleged that the accused won’t get justice if Agra police investigated the case.
