Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Thursday took a jibe at Congress a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘raincoat’ remark on former PM Dr Manmohan in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, after which the Congress MPs had walked out of the Rajya Sabha in protest even as the PM was speaking. PM’s words churned a major controversy for belittling a former PM who has a honest track record. To put the record straight and to defend PM Modi, Prasad addressed a press conference at BJP headquarters and said that Congress has humiliated a number of former PMs. He also raised a question about Manmohan Singh and whether he is accountable for all the scams that happened during his tenure.
Prasad also said that the Opposition party is facing a problem accepting the fact that someone as common as PM Modi has become the Prime Minister of the country. He said “The real problem of the Congress party is a kind of profound faith that they have in the dynasty. They think they have a divine right to rule the country through dynasty, directly or indirectly.” Prasad also said that Congress had insulted other leaders. He said Congress had misused Chaudhary Charan Singh and said that everyone knows how did Congress behaved with P. V. Narasimha Rao, Charan Chaudhary Singh and Indra Kumar Gujral. “How did they behave with VP Singh when he raised the issue of the Bofors scam? What did Congress do with the memory of Lal Bahadur Shastri?” he asked.
The remark, ”Bathroom mein raincoat pehen kar ke nahana, yeh kala to Doctor Saab hi jaante hain aur koi nahin jaanta hai” (Only Dr Saab knows the art of bathing while wearing a raincoat in the bathroom), by PM Modi about his predecessor Manmohan Singh in the Rajya Sabha yesterday infuriated the Congress and led to a walkout that eventually left only three political opponents — Sharad Pawar of NCP, Ram Kumar Kashyap of INLD and V Vijay Sai Reddy of YSR Congress — to vote on amendments to the President’s address. While Congress MPs had walked out, Manmohan himself had preferred to stay silent on the issue despite being questioned by the gathered mediamen.
