Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy earlier today commented on the situation that has been going on in Pakistan over the Panama Paper. Swamy turned to Twitter and shared a post saying, “All prominent Politicians of Pak have Panama Papers entries. But Pak Army targeted Sharif because it wants a jehadi PM not a rubber stamp.” This comment by the BJP leader came a few minutes after the Supreme Court of Pakistan held Nawaz Sharif guilty in the Panama Paper verdict. As the verdict was passed by the SC, Sharif stepped down from his post which marked the end of his political career in Pakistan.
The judgement of the Supreme Court was unanimous. The apex court of Pakistan disqualified Sharif from holding his office. According to Dawn, the judges ruled that Sharif was “dishonest to Parliament and the courts and could not be deemed fit for his office.” Pakistan Supreme Court justice Ejaz Afzal Khan said the bench has recommended to send all materials collected by JIT to an accountability court within six weeks. Moreover, cases would now be opened against Captain Muhammad Safdar, Maryam, Hassan and Hussain Nawaz as well as Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the Dawn reported, adding a final judgement should be announced within 30 days.
