A day after Union minister Anant Kumar Hegde stirred a controversy with his remarks against Congress president Rahul Gandhi, a Madhya Pradesh minister responded by calling for a DNA check of Hedge’s parents to know the BJP MP’s caste. Hegde had questioned the caste and religion of Gandhi and wondered if he can prove how ‘a person born to a Muslim father and Christian mother became a Gandhi’.

Hegde said, “They (Congress) want proof of surgical strikes even when the whole world acknowledged it. This Muslim who calls himself a ‘janeudhari Hindu’ (the one who wears Brahminical thread), son of a Muslim father & a Christian mother, does he have proof that he is a Hindu”?, ANI quoted Hegde as saying.

Hegde made these remarks while addressing a public rally in Karnataka’s Uttara Kannada on Sunday.

Responding to Hegde’s remarks, Madhya Pradesh minister Govind Singh Said, “Hegde ji ki Maa aur Pitaji ka DNA liya jaaye, jaanch ki jaye ki unki jaat kya hai. Iss tarah ke shabd bol kar kisi ke samman ko thes pahunchana, aise logon ki baat nahi karna chahta,” ANI reported. (DNA of Hedge’s father and mother should be collected to know his caste. Don’t want to talk about these people who make such statements disrespect people.)

Hegde is no stranger to making such comments against the Congress chief and others. Less than two months ago, he had called Gandhi a ‘hybrid specimen’ who was ‘born to a Christian and a Muslim’.

Singh also lashed out at the Modi government on surgical strikes and asked why the strikes were not conducted in the last four and half years and the Manmohan Singh govt did strikes 25-30 times but never publicised it.

“4 1/2 saal mein surgical strike kyun nahi ki? Manmohan Singh sarkar mein 25-30 baar surgical strike hui lekin prachar nahi kiya. Modi ne chunav ke liye prachaar karne ke liye shadyantra karke chunav jeetne ka kaam kar rahe hain. Sena ki chhavi bigaad rahe hain” ANI quoted Singh as saying. (Why surgical strikes were not conducted in the last four and half years? Manmohan Singh’s govt did 25-30 times surgical strikes but never publicised it. Modi is doing for election campaigning to win the elections and maligning the image of the army).
