After Delhi, Dengue mosquitos now take a bite of Mumbai; posh areas affected

So far, the city has witnessed three dengue deaths, with 9,796 suspected cases reported. Of the total number, 3,287 cases were reported in September itself.

The national capital has been gripped by the claws of dengue. On Tuesday, a municipal reports stated that dengue cases in the national capital has increased to 1,692 with 921 of them being recorded this month. However, Mumbai has also been clasped by the by this menace now.

According to DNA, the disease is lurking in the posh localities of Mumbai. The trend was observed when patients affected by dengue were found to be hailing from affluent parts of the city. Dr Anil Ballani of Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre while talking about the menace said that the patients admitted so far belong to areas like Carter road and Pali Hill. They are being affected by the vector-borne diseases even though they live in high rises.

DNA also reports that pregnant women have also witnessed  an influx of dengue cases. In some areas, the situation has reportedly gone to extent where hospitals are forced to shift about surgery timings. A majority of patients being admitted claim to have symptoms such as headache, body ache and vomitting.

Recently, Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen was slapped with a civic body notice after mosquito breeding spots were found at her residence in subarban Khar. The insecticides department of the civic body have also found the homes of top five most senior IAS officers to be the breeding spots for Aedes Aegypti mosquito.

While civic authorities maintain that steps are being taken to thwart the vector-borne disease, residents miantain that adequate measures are not being taken.
