The Congress’ plan to select the head of their student wing National Students Union of India (NSUI) is going through a rough patch. Sources have told Indian Express that complaints regarding the shortlisting the names for the top NSUI post have reached Congress’ Vice President Rahul Gandhi, who has called for a meeting of NSUI office bearers for a meeting to help resolve the issue.
The Congress had recently started an open application procedure to select the next President of the NSUI. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi had set up a panel headed by general secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) Mukul Wasnik to oversee the process of the NSUI President appointment. The committee set up by Congress President Sonia Gandhi consists of AICC’s NSUI secretary in-charge Girish Chodankar, a former member of parliament Meenakshi Natarajan, Ruchi Gupta, Yashasvi Mishra, Krishna Mishra and former members of the NSUI, according to the Indian Express.
The names presented to Rahul Gandhi include NSUI vice-president Kumar Raja, general secretary of the body Ajay Chhikara, NSUI general secretary Hasiba Amin, NSUI secretaries Vardhan Yadav and Fairoz Khan, NSUI’s J&K chief Neeraj Kundan and Manish Sharma. Any member of the NSUI who has spent one year in the party can apply for the youth wing’s top slot.
