About 70 girls in Muzaffarnagar were stripped naked by their warden to check for menstrual blood. The warden responsible for the action has been suspended with immediate effect. The students alleged that they had been stripped naked by the warden to check if they were on their period, demanding strict actions against her. According to CNN News18, one of the students claimed that the warden first found some blood in the bathroom and ordered everyone to remove their clothes. She said that it was humiliating for all of them and demanded strict actions against her.
The warden was then suspended with immediate effect. Speaking to reporters, she denied the incident saying that nothing happened. She said that some blood had been found in the bathroom and on the walls and so we wanted to see if the girls were alright. She added that as a few girls were not able to express, she had simply asked them if something was wrong with them. She claimed that the girls did not like her because she was strict in matters of studies and they were being provoked by other staff members who wanted her to leave.
The incident took place in the Kasturba Gandhi Girls Residential School, according to Zee News. The incident is said to have taken place when there were no other teachers were present in the residential school. Meanwhile, Shrikant Sharma, Minister in Yogi Adiyanath’s Uttar Pradesh government said that the concerned officials had been asked to enquire and take necessary actions against those found responsible for the incident. Menstruation has been considered to be a taboo in many parts of the country.
