Somnath Bharti, Aam Aadmi Party MLA, on Thursday, was arrested by Delhi Police for assaulting AIIMS’ security guards. Earlier on September 11, Bharti was accused by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for misbehaving with their security staff and damaging property. Delhi police had registered a FIR after a written complaint by AIIMS Chief Security Officer RS Rawat. The complaint, that was made at the Hauz Khas police station in South Delhi said that Bharti had provoked the mob to damage the fence of government property.
The complaint said that Bharti had given permission to unauthorised people with JCB machines to access the AIIMS campus. Meanwhile, Bharti had denied the reports and accused AIIMS of denying “legitimate access” to the Gautam Nagar residents. He also stressed that the charges against him for breaking a wall to gain complete access was a blatant lie. Although, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Prem Nath said they had a video clip to prove otherwise.
Bharti was later seen angry on social networking site Twitter, where he said that the wall will have to be brought down in the larger interests of the community, irrespective of the consequences. Bharti had said that he was present to help in facilitating the drive planned by the PWD. The PWD had earlier issued countless warnings to the medical institute to clear out a part of his parking lot for the construction of a road from the General Raj School to Ring Road. Earlier in the month of September, Bharti had been detained in Chennai for organising a rally without prior permission of the police or the municipal corporation.
