AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan has been arrested after a woman had filed a case against him alleging that one of the legislator’s supporters present at his residence in South Delhi’s Batla House, had misbehaved with her and threatened her with dire consequences. Party supporters have gathered around Jamia college to protest against the arrest. Continuing the narrative of punitive actions against AAP MLAs, an FIR was lodged against Khan, under section 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), on July 19 based on the complaint of the woman hailing from Jasola. The woman alleged that though she did not get to meet Amanatullah Khan, but the youth abused her on his orders. Amanatullah Khan is a representer of the Okhla constituency in Delhi assembly. Aam Aadmi Party then alleged that the woman was ‘pressurised’ to record a falso statement, and released a footage involving the woman, where she was heard saying that the police asked her to add “threats of raping and killing her” in the FIR. Police said they are probing the matter.
“We received a complaint from the woman accusing AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan for threatening her with dire consequences after she went to meet him and register her complaint about poor electricity supply in her area,” a police officer had told IANS. This is the fourth complaint against an AAP MLA since June. AAP MLA Dinesh Mohaniya had an FIR against him in a sexual harassment case and MLA Prakash Jarwal for sexual harassment and molestation. Delhi Police also registered an FIR against MLA Somnath Bharti for an allegation of misbehavior with a woman.
