Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today came out in support of net neutrality and demanded that all data and sites be treated and charged equally by telecom companies. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today wrote on his micro blogging site Twitter that “AAP committed to neutral internet. India MUST debate #NetNeutrality. I support #Saveinternet campaign https://www.savetheinternet.in”
The online campaign www.savetheinternet.in has been set up where a user can send a mail directly to TRAI pledging your support to net neutrality and express their discomfort on the issue.
Demanding net neutrality, AAP MLA, Adarsh Shastri said “it is extremely important. Content and the medium to reach to the content should be independent. So medium which takes the user to the content should not have control on how to access it. It will lead to monopolistic situation.”
“If net neutrality is not implemented, then new start-up companies will be stuck as they will have no way to afford. Neutrality is in the interest of business health, start-up, and consumer. It should be mandated by TRAI for national benefit,” Shastri told PTI.
Various online campaigns have gathered momentum on social media websites which stand against telecom operators charging extra money from users and companies to open apps faster and slowing down the speed for those who don’t pay.
Netizens have been demanding net neutrality so that all sites are equally accessible, at the same speed, and if there is a cost of access, it should be the same for all.
