Bhartiya Janata Party’s Delhi unit chief Satish Upadhyay on Sunday alleged that Aam Aadmi Party was the orchestrator of attacks on gurudwaras and churches during last Assembly elections in the capital city.
“Religious books were tampered with. Attempts were made to divide the city on religious lines. We saw attacks on churches and gurdwaras. The incidents did not appear serious at that point of time. We got some news of Tilak Nagar AAP workers being involved in such activities,” said Upadhyay during the party’s district executive meet in Mayur Vihar.
He asked party workers to “expose minority appeasement acts and policies of the (Arvind) Kejriwal government”.
“A movement to this effect will soon be launched in Delhi. Since the day AAP has come to power, it has been playing with religious sentiments of the people, AAP would try to incite communal tension on the lines of Malerkotla in Punjab” added Upadhyay.
The Delhi BJP chief’s comments came at a time when one of the AAP MLA Naresh Yadav has been named in an FIR in a case related to the alleged desecration of the Quran.
Naming some of the other party leaders, he said that AAP has been involved in organising such incidents for minority appeasement.
“(AAP MLA) Jarnail Singh, especially, has been involved in many mischievous activities in Punjab. AAP leaders have denigrated Punjab to fulfill their political goals. The youth of Punjab have been labelled as drug addicts. As a consequence, they are facing biases within and outside the country. It has become tough for them to land a decent job due to labelling,” he told party workers.
“Kejriwal and his party have every wrong intention to ignite communal and religious clashes just like they have done in Malerkotla and Sunder Nagari. They are dividing the society, their game is dangerous and design is evil. They are working towards widening the gap between people of different communities,” Upadhyay added.
He asked BJP workers to be more attentive and vigilant “Our workers need to read and should be learned. They need to be more attentive and their reaction to any such heinous activity should be rational,” he added.
The party is currently working at the grassroots to prepare for municipal polls slated for next year, and potential bypolls for 21 assembly seats in Delhi if the election commission disqualifies 21 parliamentary secretaries (all AAP MLAs) appointed by the Delhi government. The BJP Delhi unit is reportedly planning 280 such meetings of the district executive throughout Delhi.
