To send across the message of women’s empowerment and to amplify its objective, Aamir Khan’s-starrer Dangal will be aired for the members of the Parliament today. As per the reports, the movie will be screened on the initiative of the Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and will be screened in the Balayogi auditorium in the evening after the session gets over. The movie will be screened at 6:30 pm and has been organised by the Welfare department of Lok Sabha Secretariat.
“It is my privilege to inform you that the Speaker has desired that popular Hindi Film Dangal be screened for the Members of both Houses on Thursday, March 23 at 1830 hrs,” said a communique by Secretary General of Lok Sabha, Anoop Mishra to Parliamentarians. “I would be grateful if could kindly make it convenient to grace the occasion along with your spouse”, it added.
“The objective is to send across the message of women empowerment so that the lawmakers can promote it in their respective constituencies,” said a senior official from the department.
Dangal, a movie inspired by the true life women wrestlers Geeta Kumari and Babita Kumari Phogat showcases the strength of women and carried the message that they are not born to stay back home but to fight the world for their rights and that they deserve the same respect as that of their male counterparts. It revolves around the life of a father who left his dream because of financial constraints and then encouraged his daughters to take up this sport – it is a girl-power drama, where a father-coach turns his daughters into medal winners. Breaking all the shackles and taboos of Indian society, Dangal came out to be one of the more formidable and entertaining movies released this year.
However, this not the first time that a movie has been screened in Parliament, last year also, the play Chankayas was staged for MPs.
