With accusations of assault during the Chhat Puja celebrations, the Delhi police had today arrested Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Rituraj Govind from Kirari in North West Delhi.
Days back, the AAP MLA was also detained by the police for his attempts to build a ghat on a heritage site along the Yamuna bank for Chhath Puja. Reported there were stone-pelting in the area as villagers were against the ghat construction. According to the police, Govind had breached prohibitory order imposed in the area.
Since the Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) came to power in February 2015, at least 13 Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA)s from the party have been arrested, among whom nine are out on bail.
Rituraj Govind’s arrest came three days after the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia were detained by the police for trying to meet the family of the ex-serviceman Ram Kishan Grewal, who comitted suicide, citing the central government’s delay in the implementation of the One Rank One Pension (OROP).
