Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday completed three years of its existence with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who has twice led his party to power here, thanking its “tireless volunteers” for its achievements.

“AAP is where it is today thanks to the efforts of thousands of tireless volunteers. On #3YearsOfAAP I salute their dedication,” Kejriwal, also the AAP Convener, said in a tweet.

Volunteers took to twitter reminiscing their struggle during the Janlokpal movement and party’s first electoral quest.

The party which rode to power for a second time in Delhi with a stupendous win in Assembly polls in February this year was born out of an anti-graft movement led by social activist Anna Hazare.

While the formation of the party was announced on October 2, 2012, it was formally launched on this day — also marked as Constitution Day in India — three years ago.

During these three years, the party contested three polls — two state Assembly polls and the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. While it secured strong results in Assembly polls in Delhi, AAP failed to win a single seat here in the Lok Sabha elections.

In its spectacular debut show in Delhi Assembly polls in 2013, the party won 28 seats and went to form the government with outside support from Congress. However, that stint, led by Kejriwal, a former bureaucrat and RTI activist, was short- lived.

AAP returned to power earlier this year with a fabulous victory that saw it clinch 67 of the 70 seats in Delhi Assembly, decimating the Congress and reducing BJP to just three seats.

However, the party also saw several several ups and downs in last one year. The last one year also saw a major upheaval in the party. Its founder members Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan were sacked for anti-party activities after they questioned the leadership. That was followed also by the sacking and resignation of some more of its National Executive and National Council members.
