Major Kamlesh Pandey and Sepoy Tanzin Chhultim were the ones who lost their lives in the encounter, while two other personnel were injured. The last rite ceremony of Major Kamlesh Pandey took place earlier today in Uttrakhand’s Haldwani. Major Kamlesh’s father while interacting with the media after his son’s final rites expressed his anger towards Pakistan. He said, “A full and final war with Pakistan will only bring peace for 15-20 years. The govenment should take this decision. (Pakistan ke saath toh aar paar ki jung honi chahiye, 15-20 saal shanti rahegi. Sarkaar ko ye faisla lelena chahiye),” reported ANI. He further added, “My son has made the supreme sacrifice; now India needs to step in the battleground against Pakistan to save its sons, ” as quoted by ANI.
The Himachal Pradesh government on Thursday had announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the kin of Tanzin Chhultim. According to news agency ANI, a police official said that a cordon and search operation was launched by Army in Zaipora area of Shopian during Wednesday night following intelligence inputs about the presence of militants there. He added that during the search operation, terrorists fired upon the party in which four army personnel were injured. While on way to the hospital, two of them, succumbed to injuries.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti too paid floral tributes to two soldiers. An army official was quoted saying, “Mehbooba and her deputy Nirmal Singh, joined Chinar Corps Commander Lt. Gen. J S Sandhu and officials from civil and police administration, to pay rich tributes to Major Pandey and Sepoy Tanzin Chhultim, in a solemn ceremony at Badamibagh cantonment here.”
Earlier today, in another encounter, two terrorists were gunned down by the security forces in the Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir.
