A building in Mankhurd located in the eastern suburb of Mumbai collapsed earlier this morning resulting in death of 3 people. As per reports, the house collapsed at the Sai Baba Rahivashi Sangh area in Mankhurd Maharashtra Nagar. The incident occurred at around 7 am today informed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Twelve people where rescued from the collapsed building and were later rushed to Shatabdi and Sion hospital and the rescue operations are still underway. The incident effected three families – Pawar, Gadwe and Wankhede. As per reports, the building collapsed on the other two houses next to it which later resulted in three deaths leaving twelve people injured, five out of these were children.
As soon as the incident took place, fire brigade was informed. Locals with the help of fire brigade rescued the trapped victims and were later rushed to the nearby hospitals. The efforts to clear the junk are underway.

Tellingly, incidents of house collapse in Mumbai and nearby areas have been happening regularly and the resultant toll in terms of human suffering and deaths has been high. Most of the house collapses usually happen either during the monsoon or after it as water seepage affects the structure of these buildings which were built in an unsafe manner.
