2G scam verdict: Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on behalf of the Central Government became the first to react to the 2G scam verdict announced by the special court in Delhi today. While addressing the media, FM said, “This was a corrupt & dishonest policy, which has already been upheld by the Supreme Court in 2012.” While talking about the reactions of the various Congress leaders, FM Jaitley said, “Congress leaders are treating this judgement as some kind of a badge of honor & a certification that it was an honest policy.” he added, “No reason for Congress leaders to treat verdict as a badge of honour or certificate.” He went on to say, “Each & every case of spectrum allocation was quashed by SC (in 2012) as arbitrary & unfair, the policy was quashed as unfair & intended to cause loss to GoI & the govt was directed to have a fresh policy by which an auction would take place.”
Further, FM added, “The fact that the policy caused loss is clear from the fact that the subsequent auctions got a much higher price.” He further said, “I am sure that the investigative agencies will have a close look at it (the judgement & acquittal of accused) & decide what has to be done.”

In a major verdict, all the 2G scam cases accused were acquitted by a special court in Delhi today. The verdict came as a big relief for DMK supremo Karunanidhi’s daughter Kanimozhi and former Telecom Minister A Raja. While announcing the verdict the court said that that the prosecution has miserably failed to prove any of its charges. Thus all accused are acquitted, according to Vijay Aggarwal, Lawyer of Swan Telecom promoters Shahid Usman Balwa, Vinod Goenka and others. As soon as the verdict was announced, Kanimozhi while talking to the media said, “I would love to thank everyone who stood by me.” She added, “Its not easy when you are accused of something you haven’t done. Big day for me and party. There was a lot of conspiracy behind all this, a single person can’t be blamed for the 2G scam.”
A Raja reacted by saying,”We welcome the verdict. We are very happy with court’s decision.” He added, “We are waiting for a copy of the judgement. We will take legal opinion on it after that.”
Congress leaders who reacted to the verdict included Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, P Chidambaram, Shashi Tharoor and others. “We respect the court’s judgement. Court has unambiguously put to rest the propaganda against UPA,” said former PM Manmohan Singh. P Chidambaram while giving his reaction said, “Allegation of a major scam involving the highest levels of Government was never true, was not correct and that has been established today.”
“Clearly, the Court found that innocent people have been wronged. Justice has worked as it is supposed to work in our country,” said Congress leader Shashi Tharoor.
