Jammu and Kashmir state police on Monday busted a hideout of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist in state Kulgam district. The police, launching a crackdown on alleged terrorists, arrested over 9 ground workers and recovered arms & ammunition, News channel India Today TV reported.

As per reports, the police was aided by the Rashtriya Rifles (RR) during the operation, which was deemed successful following the arrests. The arrests were made under IPC sections 10, 13 and 18. They have been thoroughly grilled and based on the information procured from the interrogation, further more arrests are expected.

“We have busted a module of the banned Hizbul Mujahideen militant organisation by arresting seven militants,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kulgam, Shridhar Patil told reporters today.

“We registered a case on the basis of this information and during investigation it was found that Zubar Ahmad Badar, a resident of Nai-Basti in Qaimoh area of the district, was the king-pin of this module. He was subsequently arrested,” Patil said.

“It was a recruitment module that was busted. They were aiming to disrupt the upcoming election proceedings,” he added. Yesterday, the Jammu and Kashmir police arrested 18 persons on stone pelting charges ahead of bypolls.

Police have launched a massive crackdown against youth in south Kashmir by arresting at least 135 youth in the past two weeks.

The arrested youth were wanted for disrupting law and order in the district by resorting to violence, the police officials said.

The Lok Sabha by polls for south Kashmir’s Anantnag seat and central Kashmir’s Srinagar seat were announced on March 9 followed by the announcement of candidates by the ruling and Opposition parties last week.
