OVERVIEW
The growth of commercial vehicle (CV) industry is regarded as the backbone of a country’s economic progress. For India, which is amongst the fastest growing automotive market, there are healthy macroeconomic signs of achieving robust growth in the coming years. This means, the commercial vehicle segment is expected to continue sustained growth.
The Indian CV industry had attained a peak of over a million units in FY2018-19, but went into a degrowth mode after that. But with the industry usually seeing a pickup cycle of three years, barring the Covid-19 pandemic year, the CV sales have started picking-up.
But on the other hand, the megatrends of ACES (Autonomous, Connected, Electric and Shared) are also impacting the CV industry in various degrees. The bus segment thanks to the push by the government and procurement by CESL for STUs is enabling faster movement towards electrification. This is followed by the SCV and LCV segments seeing demand for electrified solutions by private players, while the M&HCV trucks will be the last to see affordable electrification solution.
Then there is the push towards telematics and ADAS technology which is making inroads in the bus and truck segment to ensure higher uptime.
ABOUT THE EVENT
The Financial Express Commercial Vehicle Conclave 2023 is a platform to bring together industry stakeholders from OEMs, suppliers, policy makers to fleet customers, to discuss, debate, and understand the future roadmap.
The day-long event will bring forth discussions on how is the Indian CV industry gearing up for the future. It is but obvious that India with its own set of challenges and opportunities can not just rely on copy-paste solutions from Europe or America but at the same time, can contribute towards solving their challenges through locally-developed solutions.
In fact, the Indian component and software industry are amongst the fastest growing and significant suppliers to the global CV industry. While these solutions are first deployed in the developed markets, it is no secret that they will find their way to the domestic market soon.
