You must have read stories about the most searched celebrities on internet or the most followed celebrity on social media, but did you know there exists a list of most ‘dangerous’ celebrities on the Net? Well, dangerous, not because they may harm you, but your computer. Yes, you heard it right. McAfee, the cybersecurity company that tracks and ranks celebrities based on search results on names has released a list of 10 such celebrities who are a common front for sites planning on installing malware or are intent on compromising your computer and/or information. The American technology firm has been ranking celebrities this way since 2008 and the first celebrity to hold the title of the ‘most dangerous’ was none other than Hollywood icon Brad Pitt.
This year, the name which tops the charts is Canadian pop princess Avril Lavigne. According to the survey, over 14 per cent of the pages with her name contains threat of some sort; that number comes closer to 25 percent when “free mp3” is added to the search. Lavigne is followed by American pop singer Bruno Mars who also made his debut on the list.
Here are other celebrities who rounded up the top 10 list:
Rank 1: Avril Lavigne
Rank 2: Bruno Mars
Rank 3: Carly Rae Jepsen
Rank 4: Zayn Malik
Rank 5: Celine Dion
Rank 6: Calvin Harris
Rank 7: Justin Bieber
Rank 8: Sean “Diddy” Combs
Rank 9: Katy Perry
Rank 10: Beyonce
Reasoning out why Lavigne scored so high on the 11th annual list, McAfee stated that she became the talk of town after she said she’s working on a new album and a feature story on her by E! Online which followed a conspiracy theory that she has been replaced by an impostor.
This is for the first time that a female musician has acquired the top spot in the list of McAfee’s most dangerous celebrities. Lavigne replaced Amy Schummer who was named most dangerous celebrity in 2016.
