Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma might have pulled off the year’s most talked about secret wedding successfully but the couple’s wedding designer Devika Narain now divulges that it was not that smooth after all. Everything about the Virushka wedding was so dreamy, be it the European pastel setting or the star power aspect, everything in the event kept us hooked to the occasion throughout. But the Lucknow girl now reveals that not everything went as per plan. In an interview to the BBC, Devika says the wedding was supposed to be an outdoor affair which had to be shifted at the last minute to an indoor courtyard. Thanks to the Italian weather the entire wedding had to be moved indoors.
Devika in her BBC interview was asked whether there was any moment of panic throughout the wedding to which she said that it was the weather which was the main spoiler. She further said that no one in Italy gets married at this time since it is winter there. On the morning of the Mehendi ceremony, people woke up to a completely white landscape and the dew had frozen. ”The wedding was supposed to be completely outdoors and it had to be moved to an indoor courtyard,” Deevika said.
Deevika talking about Anushka called her a ”typical bride” who was incredibly invested in every decision and detail. The wedding was thoroughly her idea and the wedding planners were just mapping it. It was all in all a typical Indian wedding and talking about the day wise event she says, ”We had a welcome lunch, a sangeet and engagement on the first day. The second day was a bright colourful Mehendi and that night was a typical bonfire night. It rained out, so we were all huddled next to a giant campfire, there was karaoke, everyone was singing. The third day was the grand finale.”
One of the biggest highlights of her interview was when she talked about the lovebirds being hardcore spiritual. It was their idea of growth and prosperity which inspired the wedding theme of an overgrown garden, she says. She also reveals that the couple is a big fan of Rumi and his poetry, so an anthology of his poems was given as a take-back present for all the guests.
The duo tied the knot in a hush-hush wedding in the beautiful landscapes of Tuscany in the presence of close friends and family. The wedding took place at a countryside resort named Borgo Finocchieto, one of the most expensive holiday properties in the world. The property is located in a small village called Bibiano – having a population of less than 100 people. It is in the Tuscany region of Italy.
