Udta Punjab box office collections have just proved that a week old movie is not always at the receiving end of the onslaught that a new release unleashes at the box office.

Udta Punjab box office collections have just proved that a week old movie is not always at the receiving end of the onslaught that a new release unleashes at the box office. But first, the collections – the Shahid Kapoor starrer has crossed the Rs 50 crore figure by day 9 since its release after managing to pull off a surprise by making that day’s earnings rise over the previous one to collect Rs 2.10 crore. Very few movies, especially those that have already had a 7-day run manage to beat their previous day’s take as the trend is downhill after the opening weekend.

So, Udta Punjab created 2 surprises even as it slowly fades into the sunset. These have also written an epitah for Raman Raghav 2.0. The very fact that Udta Punjab collections rose indicates there were very few takers for this latest release. It left the B.O. quite undisturbed and in fact, breathed new life into Udta Punjab, which can now look forward to dominating the entire week and add to its gradually rising collections.

Raman Raghav 2.0 box office collections have barely risen from the floor after an extremely bad opening. The Anurag Kahyap film has grossed just Rs 1.10 cr on day 1 despite being a thriller and having a decent cast including Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Vicky Kaushal. The critics weren’t very charitable and neither is teh audience and that also means it will not be getting any word-of-mouth boost either.

Having said that, don’t expect Udta Punjab to corner glory and cruise into the Rs 100 cr club. Far from it, in fact. The movie’s earnings are not expected to do anything spectacular like that, but the filmmakers will surely welcome every booster shot they get – and there have been quite a few, including Censor Board outrage, political backlash, and before that Alia Bhatt.

Here are the Udta Punjab box office collections throughout its 9-day run till Saturday: Day 1 (Fri): Rs 10.05 cr; Day 2 (Sat): Rs 11.25 cr; Day 3 (Sun): Rs 12.50 cr; Day 4 (Mon): Rs 4.50 cr; Day 5 (Tue): Rs 4 cr; Day 6 (Wed): Rs 3.40 cr;  Day 7 (Thu): Rs 2.80 cr; Day 8 (Fri): Rs 1.40 cr; Day 9 (Sat): Rs 2.10 cr; TOTAL (NETT): Rs 52 cr. According to Bollywood, all inclusive, Udta Punjab box office collections have risen to Rs 80.68 cr.

And what of the future for Udta Punjab? Perhaps a third week? Of course not! Salman Khan starrer Sultan release date is July 6 and nothing before it has a chance at the box office. In fact, Sultan box office collections prediction is one of the hottest topics within the industry and outside it too and debate is raging whether it can set a new opening day collections record. Udta Punjab by then would of course have become only a fading memory
