Udta Punjab box office collections: After weeks of controversy, the movie has finally hit the screens and though some trouble points still remain in Punjab, at least, the Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Kareena Kapoor starrer has reportedly done very well for itself at the B.O. notching up an occupancy rate as high as 45%, according to Bollywood Hungama.

While no one said the film was a dud to start with, but this controversy’s child is predicted to do very well simply on the strength of having attracted so much attention to itself courtesy the Censor Board and thereafter the courts. That it also packs some powerful performances by some of the best actors in Bollywood makes for a powerful mix at the B.O. For the fans of the actors, of course, this has become just another reason to make sure they watch the movie and for a lot of others sitting on the fences this controversy has become the primary force to lure them onto the theatre seats.

The fact that Udta Punjab was leaked online days before its release is also not expected to do much harm to the earnings as the authorities had clamped down on the wrongdoers. The requests by the Bollywood fraternity not to watch the pirated version of the film also helped restrict any tangible loss.

The thing that is also working for the movie is that there is no rival in theatres at the moment, although the super-successful Housefull 3 has grossed over Rs 100 cr and is still running. However, it is not expected to steal any movie-goers from Udta Punjab.
