The Ghazi Attack box office collections opening day predictions: A movie based on true-enough events with a healthy dose of patriotism and the breakout star of 2015’s southern fantasy epic Baahubali – all these factors should allow The Ghazi Attack to do decent enough business at the box office, even though it lacks any Bollywood biggies that you’d usually need for a hit. While one can’t expect the more xenophobic segment of the audience to be entirely accepting of Rana Daggubati as the movie’s leading man, the film should still see considerable success. It is expected to open at Rs 2 crore today (February 17), according to Bollywood Hungama.

As Ghazi Attack is a more unusual vehicle (meaning anything that doesn’t feature a Khan/ Akshay Kumar) to take the box office, its lifetime success will largely depend on whether it gets positive word of mouth. The movie reviews have been mixed and range from ‘forgettable’ to a must-watch. However, word of mouth was able to work wonders for Baahubali (when Prabhas and Rana weren’t household names in north-India) and could have the same effect for this film. At this point, The Ghazi Attack features some solid competition in the form of Jolly LLB 2 and regardless of the war movie’s spectacular special effects, the legal drama trumps it in terms of star power.

The lion’s share of The Ghazi Attack’s revenue will come from the southern theatres where Rana isn’t just ‘that actor in Baahubali’, but a bona fide star in his own right (possibly where Akshay Kumar turns into ‘that actor who’ll star alongside Rajinikanth in 2.0’). In terms of its staying power, The Ghazi Attack won’t be able to withstand the onslaught of Rangoon with its leading cast of Kangana Ranaut, Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan. Whatever revenue it has to collect in north-India’s theatres will have to be in its first week.
