Tabla maestro Zakir Hussain gave a mesmerizing treat to around 4000 inmates at the Yerawada Central Prison in Pune with his solo performance today. As part of the rehabilitation program named ‘Preranapath’, veteran tabla maestro visited the jail and after his show, he also interacted with the prisoners there. The event was organised jointly by a local NGO and the prison administration. While interacting with the inmates, Zakir said he was thrilled to perform inside the prison.
Speaking to PTI, Swati Sathe, the Deputy Inspector General (Prison) said that Zakir performed for 30 about minutes. She said since inmates were not allowed to go out, the jail administration, along with the NGO, organised this event on the premises of the facility. The Prison Officer Jayashri Powar too performed in front of the inmates and Zakir.

Earlier this week, Zakir along with Ustad Shujaat Khan and Niladri Kumar preformed at the New Delhi’s Modern School. Thousands of people turned at the event to listen to the jugalbandi between the three tabla wizards.
