Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa, who is in hospital with a serious ailment, whose nature has not fully been explained by the authorities, today received a surprising visitor in the form of superstar Rajinikanth and his daughter. Jayalalithaa has been ailing for weeks now and rumours about her health were increasingly leading to a lot of uncertainty being created in Tamil Nadu politics.

However, the AIADMK showed its support to the supreme leader and though she is in hospital, the entire Cabinet has been working in a disciplined manner. There have been no reports about any threats to her chief ministership or her position as the leader of the party.

Jayalalithaa remains one of the most popular and powerful politicians in Tamil Nadu and the people from all walks of life have been visiting the hospital, some actually living on the footpath for days, and praying for her recovery. Both Rajinikanth and his daughter too are there to check on the health of Jayalalithaa and wish her well, according to sources.

Over the last few days a number of political leaders from the Narendra Modi led Union Cabinet have visited Jayalalitha in hospital. So have various Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders as well as from arch rival DMK.

While no clarity is still there about Jayalalithaa’s health, the latest that can be gauged from the reports is that she is recovering, but it will take quite some time for her to be released from hospital.
