Hrithik Roshan, the ‘Greek God’ of Bollywood must be feeling lucky to portray the character of mathematician Anand Kumar in the upcoming biopic ’Super30’. Phantom films on Tuesday shared the first look of Hrithik in the movie on Twitter. But who is Anand Kumar and why is a biopic being made on him. Kumar, who is based in Patna, is popular for tutoring IIT aspirants who belong to a less privileged background. For the last 14 years, Kumar has been tutoring the underprivileged section students for IIT-JEE and has been honoured by the British Columbia for his contribution in the field of education. Kumar for over a decade has been tutoring the kids for free. Over 350 students from the institute have cracked the IIT-JEE.
Here is all you need to know about Anand Kumar:
1- He was born in Patna and attended Hindi-medium schools where he developed an interest in Mathematics.
2- Although he secured a place in the famous Cambridge University, he could not take admission due to bad financial conditions.
3- His mother had started selling papad to support the family’s financial condition. Kumar also assisted her in the evening.
4- Kumar used to travel to Varanasi on Fridays only to read foreign journals in the Central Library, BHU. He used to come back by Monday in the following week.
5- He started his own institute, the Ramanujan School of Mathematics in 1992. Within two years the number of students increased to 500 students.
6- Every year his institute conducts a test to select top 30 students from economically backward strata. The ones selected, Kumar teaches them and gives them accommodation for a year.
7- His mother cooks for the students and his brother takes care of the management.
8- Super 30 received praise from United States President Barack Obama’s special envoy Rashad Hussain, who termed it the “best” institute in the country.
9- In April 2011, Kumar was selected by Europe’s magazine Focus as “one of the global personalities who have the ability to shape exceptionally talented people.”
10- In 2009, Discovery Channel had featured a documentary on Super 30. The New Times has also written about Anand Kumar.
