It wasn’t to be. Salman Khan starrer Sultan box office collections on Sunday soared to the best ever since release at Rs 38.21 crore, but unfortunately, fell just short of expectations, marring the perfect run of the movie slightly. Sultan collection 5th day was expected to jump over the Rs 40 cr barrier, but as can be seen, it got very near it.
The industry, keeping in mind analysts Sultan collection Sunday predictions in mind, eyeing another huge windfall, and even though there was a huge momentum, it could not live up to mammoth expectations that had built up, largely because of the larger-than-life persona that Salman Khan has built up.
Having said that, while predictions and expectations are in the realm of conjecture, the reality is that Sultan managed yet another tremendous day at the B.O. Significantly, this means the film is set up for a triumphant run over the next few days. While such high figures are unlikely to be generated again, the focus will shift elsewhere – to first week’s collections, and lifetime earnings as well as Sultan ranking vis a vis other top grossing movies.
Here is the 5-day Sultan opening weekend collections break-up: Day 1 (Wed): Rs 36.54 cr; Day 2 (Thu): Rs 37.32 cr; Day 3 (Fri): Rs 31.67 cr; Day 4 (Sat): Rs 36.62 cr; Day 5 (Sun): Rs 38.21 cr; total (India): Rs 180.36 cr. Magnificent set of numbers, any which way you look at them.
And, according to Bollywood Hungama, the gross overall collections figure has already ballooned up to Rs 325.33 crore.
Sultan collection prediction: As trends go, the first Monday of any film is a real ‘downer’. Collections usually end up plunging to single digits, for most movies, but those with superstars in them manage to keep it in the low double digits. Considering the past few days, Salman Khan’s Sultan box office collections are likely to drop to half or just a little below that.
